Here's how the First Aid CPR AED Course Provider course works.
The HeartSaver CPR AED First Aid course is a combined curriculum covering all modules required for effectively managing safety, hazards and emergencies in the workplace and community. This course is for everyone (17yrs and older) including everyday members of the community, those working in areas that frequently come into contact with the public, and anyone who needs CPR, AED and First Aid certification for employment and/or personal reasons.
Here’s what you’ll learn in the First Aid CPR AED course.
- Describe how high quality CPR improves survival
- Explain the concepts of the chain of survival
- Recognize when somone needs CPR
- Perform high-quality CPR for an adult, child and infant
- Describe how to perform CPR with help from other bystanders
- Use an AED on an adult, child and infant
- Describe when and how to help a choking adult, child and infant
- Describe how to help someone with drug overdose emergencies
- List the priorites, roles and responsibilities of first aid rescuers
- Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following lie-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock and stroke
- How to use an epinepherine pen (epi-pen)
- Recognizing elements of common injuries and control bleeding and bandaging
Who is the First Aid CPR AED Course for?
AHA CPR and first aid training is for anyone who wants to learn life-saving skills and be prepared to respond to emergencies. This includes:
- Workplace responders: such as safety officers, security guards, and industrial workers, who need to be trained in first aid and CPR to respond to emergencies that may occur in the workplace.
- Teachers and childcare providers: who need to be prepared to respond to emergencies that may occur in the classroom or daycare.
- Coaches and fitness professionals: who work with athletes and fitness enthusiasts and need to be prepared to respond to sports-related injuries.
- Community members: who want to learn how to respond to emergencies and be prepared to save lives in case of an accident, injury, or sudden illness.
Upon successful completion of the course videos and hands on skill training participants will be issued an official American Heart Association® certification (eCard) valid for 2 years. Your eCard will be issued on the same day during class.
CPR AED First Aid Course Requirements
About the American Heart Association First Aid CPR AED Provider course.
- Complete the Heartsaver® Online coursework, then attend your hands-on skills session.
- This course is for first time students, renewals, or students with expired certification.
- First Aid CPR AED certification issued the same day of your hands-on skills session.
Your AHA First Aid CPR AED certification (eCard) will be valid for two (2) years, expiring on the last day of the same month you take the class. You will be able to access your First Aid CPR AED Certification immediately once you claim your eCard in your American Heart Association online account. We will assist you with claiming your eCard at the end of class if required.

I further understand that my course completion records may be accessed by or shared with such regulators as state EMS offices, training officers, and NREMT on a password-protected, need-to-know basis. In addition, I understand that I may review my record of CAPCE-accredited course completions by contacting CAPCE.
