ACLS Course Description
Here's how the ACLS Provider course works.
The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course will prepare healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage cardiac emergencies and resuscitation efforts. Developed by the American Heart Association (AHA), the ACLS course emphasizes a systematic approach to patient assessment and treatment, including recognition and intervention for respiratory and cardiac arrest, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes.
Participants will learn critical concepts such as team dynamics, effective communication, and the use of advanced cardiovascular life support techniques and equipment. Successful completion of the ACLS course is required for many healthcare professions, and it is widely recognized as a benchmark for excellence in emergency medical care.
The course is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. These professionals include, but are not limited to, physicians, nurses, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians (EMTs).
Here’s what you’ll learn in the ACLS Provider class:
- High Performance Teams – Recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance and model effective communication as a member or leader of a high performance team
- Systematic approach and patient assessment
- High-Quality ACLS – Apply the ACLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessments sequence for a systematic evaluation of adult patients
- Airway Management – Early recognition and management of respiratory arrest
- Stroke Assessment – Early recognition and management of stroke, including appropriate disposition
- Acute Coronary Syndrome – Early recognition and management of ACS, including appropriate disposition
- Rhythm Recognition & Defibrillation – Bradycardia, Tachycardia, Cardiac Arrest Algorithm – Perform early management of bradycardias and tachycardias that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome
- Post-Arrest Management – Describe the systematic approach to a patient after cardiac arrest, and describe the initial steps of post-cardiac arrest management
Participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and intervene in a variety of cardiovascular emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, stroke, and arrhythmias. It emphasizes the importance of advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) protocols, airway management, and the use of advanced interventions, such as defibrillation and medication administration. Overall, ACLS is a challenging, but essential course for any healthcare professional who wants to be prepared to save the lives of individuals experiencing a life-threatening cardiovascular emergency.
